'The Lang Way Roon'

The journey took us North from Morar up the West coast of Scotland to Cape Wrath, via the Inner Sound between Skye and the main land.

From there we headed East along the Northern coast through the Pentland Firth before finally passing John O'Groats and Duncansby Head into the North Sea.

This is the journey that the herring fishermen and West coast and Irish traders faced in order to reach the East coast of the UK and Europe beyond prior to the construction of the Caledonian Canal by Thomas Telford in the 1820s.

From John O'Groats we headed South down the East coast until we reach Inverness.  At Inverness we swapped salt water for fresh water for 100km or so by taking the Caledonian Canal down the Great Glen to Fort William.

The final leg of our journey took us South West down Loch Linnhe before turning NW up the Sound of Mull and around the Point of Ardnamurchan to complete the circuit.
